What are we feeding our children...

by Sarah Hybels on July 8th, 2010

Chef Jamie Oliver has started a "Food Revolution" to change the way we eat at home, work and in schools. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, for the first time in two centuries the current generation of children in America may have shorter life expectancies than their parents due to obesity, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, and cancer. All of which can be caused by the food we eat.

Did you know that some schools offer children a choice in the kind of milk they drink? Not the choice between whole, skim, or 2% milk. The choice between chocolate, strawberry or regular white milk. The sugar contained in the chocolate or strawberry milk can be as much sugar as in a can of Coke. Also found in these milks are high fructose corn syrup and artifical food coloring, both of which have been linked to behavior problems in children. In order to protect the health of our children, we need to make some changes in what food are offered.

Below is a link to the "Food Revolution" where you can sign a petition to help improve food in schools. It is all about fresh, colorful homemade food that will improve our health and the health of our children. Help protect our kids!!!
